Hill Climb Racing Lite

A physics-based off-road driving game: you take Bill Newton up hills over uneven ground, balancing speed against caution, because one wrong move flips the vehicle. It suits players who like short runs and a steady improvement from one attempt to the next.

What the game asks of you

There are two controls and a hill. Gas pushes the vehicle forward, brake holds it back, and the terrain does the rest: bumps, slopes and drops throw the vehicle about, and the physics decides whether it lands on its wheels or its roof. The aim is simply to get as far as you can before the run ends.

In the air, the same two keys rotate the vehicle, so gas and brake double as a way of lining up a landing. Coins collected along the way pay for upgrades, and tricks are part of the game as well. On a computer, D or the right arrow is gas and A or the left arrow is brake; on a phone or tablet you tap the right or left side of the screen. Hill Climb Racing Lite is Fingersoft’s first game on Poki.

Curator’s notes for a first go

  • Ease off the gas before a crest; more speed is not always more distance when the next landing is steep.
  • Use gas and brake in the air to level the vehicle before it touches down.
  • Collect coins on the way, since they pay for the upgrades that help the next run go further.
  • Treat each run as a measure: note where the last one ended and aim just past it.

Who will get the most from it

Players who like skill-based driving in short attempts, and anyone who enjoys learning a piece of terrain run by run.

Flaws worth knowing

  • Poki is supported by advertising, so expect adverts around the game and sometimes before or between runs.
  • A single mistake ends a run with a flip, which can be frustrating until the balance clicks.
  • It rewards repetition; players who want variety every minute may tire of the same climb.

Questions about Hill Climb Racing Lite

Is Hill Climb Racing Lite free?

Yes. It opens free of charge in the browser on Poki, which is supported by adverts.

Why does the vehicle keep flipping?

It is physics-based: too much speed on uneven ground tips it over. Balance gas and brake, and use them in the air to level out.

Can I play it on a phone?

Poki lists computer, phone and tablet; on touch screens you tap the right side for gas and the left side for brake.
